Interior Designer to the Rescue

~~ Read my previous blog, Decorating with Years of Old Furniture first to understand this one:(http://www.anniehyatt.com/2014/11/18/decorating-with-years-of-old-furniture/)

So much to think about and so much to do.  My interior designer, Clarity MacNichols (https://www.facebook.com/DesignClarityInteriors?pnref=lhc), showed up early and ready to rock.  Did you see how I said MY interior designer?  I like to think I have staff. I showed Clarity around and gave her an idea of what I was hoping for in each room.  This process made me notice every dented corner and scuffed trim board.  Is my house really this cluttered with furniture every day or did someone put an extra couch in here?  Clarity was like a whirlwind zooming through the house asking questions. When she didn’t love something she would say something like, “Are you married to the color in here?”  or “Tell me about this table.”
And then, the magic happened.  It was crazy obvious once she suggested something.  Why didn’t I see that before?  “If you move those shelves to flank the fireplace instead of the piano, that will open up the space to put two chairs and make the family more inviting and interactive.” What? In two seconds she made my family room have flow. Yep, that just happened.
Next she continued on to the rest of the house speaking in a stream of consciousness about where things could go, what colors would work, what could be painted and saved or what could be donated.  I loved that she had definite opinions about things while allowing me to put my two cents in knowing darn well I really wanted her to tell me what to do and I would do it.
She wrote out all of the changes in detail so that I have a game plan from which to work.  It’s exactly what I needed, a plan.  I still have two more hours of her services left and she will help me pick out some things to go on the shelves and tile for a kitchen backsplash.  I really want to do it all today, but I will do things slowly and methodically so I get it right. We want to love this house for another ten years and use every room every day and we can’t wait to see the magic become a reality.
